Frequently asked questions
What safety precautions are there? Each West Miramar Patriots coach is required by the Miami-Xtreme league to complete the 8 hour online heads-up football safety training program. Additionally, each coach attends a four hour safety clinic before they receive an eligibility badge to coach. The park has a player safety coach who attends an additional four hours of safety training. The Miami-Xtreme league also requires each volunteer and team mom to attend a safety clinic to ensure there are multiple qualified person’s onsite to ensure a safe environment.
What divisions are there? The divisions are peewee (ages 5-6), 7 and under or (7U), 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U and 13U. Children born on or after 1 August of any particular year are allowed to play with the younger team. The weight divisions are unlimited but skill players are limited in weight by age divisions.
How much does it cost? Football fees range around $225 dollars early registration and a $55 refundable equipment rental (includes the rental of the shoulder pads, helmets, and game uniforms). The players are also given a shirt and short set for their keep.
When is practice? The practice schedule is determined by the head-coach and is normally 3-4 days per week and last 1 1/2 -2 hours. Conditioning practice starts during the first week of June. Full pads practices begins in July.
When are the games? The first games begin early in August and the games are played on Saturday’s. The younger teams play early in the morning and the older teams play later in the day (i.e the peewee’s play at 9am, 7u’s play at 11am, 8 u’s play at 1 am etc.)
When will I get a game schedule? Game schedules will be published in July.
Are all of the games played at Miramar Regional Park? No. Approximately half the games will be played at our home park and half will be played at the park of the opponents.
How many games are there? There are normally 10 regular season games. Teams that make the playoffs can play up to 4 more games.
Can you explain the playoffs? The top 8 teams of any age division make the first round of the playoffs. The second round is played by the remaining four teams. The final two teams compete in the Super bowl for the championship for their respective age divisions.
When will I receive a call from the coach? Coaches normally call and have their parents attend a meeting during the last weekend of May or 1st weekend of June. If you do not receive a call call the number above. You can also visit the park in June.
What happens at the end of the season? A family friendly awards banquet is held and each player receives a trophy for their contribution to the team.
